Night Lights
(
"I was a schoolteacher and was really dying on the vine," says Lester. Then somebody suggested she do what she really wanted, acting, and she got her
first small film role within a year.
In
Friday Night Lights
Lester appears in what could become a recurring role as Barbara Lee, a close friend
— very close — of Dillon's mayor, Luce Rodell (Libby Villari).
"The mayor invites the coach (Eric Taylor, played by Kyle Chandler) and his wife (Connie Britton), and I'm sitting beside the mayor and we all get drunk together. The coach and wife are figuring out, 'Oh, my gosh, they're not just
friends.' It's pretty funny."
So far, Lester is not even sure if Lee is a last name or if she's just one of
those
"They called her Barbara Lee. There was nowhere in the notes saying she had a last name. That happens sometimes. It may be the writers just haven't gotten around
to giving her one."
She's hoping to learn a lot more about Barbara Lee if the character is written into
future episodes.
"When I auditioned, they asked me if I would be willing to come back and do more on this character, and of course I said yes. It's a really interesting character.
After shooting, the director said, 'We will be seeing you again.' "
Lester's 26-year career has been pretty full with everything from commercials and industrial films to voice-overs, but her résumé also includes professional plays, some with Houston's Main Street Theater, and two dozen dramatic film and television roles, a few of which are listed on imdb.com. She was in four
episodes of
Walker, Texas Ranger
and
played a large role in the CBS movie
Shadows
of Desire
with Nicollette Sheridan and Adrian Pasdar. She also

Congratulations go out to WIFT/Houston member Darian Ward and husband Byron Nichols, who have been honored by the Minority Business Enterprise Center. Byron, a KPRC TV 2 photojournalist and Darian, a TV personality/ journalist, own their own public relations firm that also produces television shows and books. Currently Darian is doing publicity for the rapper Mike Jones' movie "The American Dream." She was also a volunteer for the chapter's Reel Stars of Texas Awards and personally assisted honorees Isaiah Washington and Chandra Wilson. Membership in WIFT/Houston certainly does have its perks! Member Mark K. Sullivan executive producing a SAG Indie shot in Los Angeles this fall titled Hitting the Bricks,
starring Alexandra Merejo as Eva, pictured here with Mark. (We know, we know, it’s a tough job but somebody’s to do it,
right Mark?) Another WIFT Houston member, Larry Young, has a part in the film.
WIFT Board Member Jenny Bosby and WIFT Advisory Council Member Beverly Pastorini are pleased to announce that their client, Charles Sanders, is getting plenty of deserved limelight. Sanders recently was shot in a guest role for
Friday Night Lights and then trekked to New Mexico to be in scenes with the now newly-awarded Oscar winner Alan Arkin in Sunshine Cleaning, an indie feature film. Ironically, Arkin just won his Best Supporting Actor nod for another bit of sunshine, in Little Miss Sunshine. Over the past two years, Sanders has done several projects in New Mexico and Pastorini-Bosby actively pursues opportunities for Texas actors there. Until the Texas legislature approves funding for production incentives in the Lone Star State, other states, including New Mexico and Louisiana will continue to steal our thunder. Please go to www.txmpa.org to find out how you can help the Texas Motion Picture Alliance seek laws allowing competitive production incentives here to enable more production business.
Pastorini-Bosby Talent’s teen actor Tony Oller has been cast in the role of Danny in “As the Bell Rings”. Tony, 15, is a student at Cy-Fair High School in Houston .
